Miamisburg, OH asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Ohio

Q: Ex husband's responsibility to keep children while I'm away for work

I have sole custody of my boys. My ex husband and I go strictly by the county standard order of parenting for parenting time. I have to go out of town for work the first week of January, and he is refusing to keep the boys that week. If I don't go on this trip I will get fired. Is he obligated to keep them in this case? My parents are elderly and cannot help, and there is no other option. Thank you!

A: If the order says it is your time, then you have to find arrangements, just as a single parent would. The order probably says the other parent gets first shot if you can't, but is not required to watch them if you can't. You might have to hire a professional sitter.
