Asked in Criminal Law for California

Q: This is class assignment I was hoping you could offer me some guidance, I put my question in the more information box

If a person was to provide a friend with sleeping pills which he lightly inquired the use for about, knowing the friend had a bad home situation, and when he did inquire stopped her saying "thats all I need to know" and that friend went on and used those sleeping pills as a means to kill her mother, would the friend who provided the sleeping pills be guilty for first degree murder under the party liability offence? if not why and what would he be charged with instead? or would he be acquitted of all charges and he did not have the requisite mens Rea for murder

A: This is a class assignment for YOU to answer. You are to answer not a lawyer.

It is also probably a violation of the Honor Code.
