Philadelphia, PA asked in Traffic Tickets for Pennsylvania

Q: Pulled over for running a red light in Robinson. Cop never gave ticket and said it's $141. Im from Atlanta. Options?

It was snowing, I couldn't really see, I went to stop but I felt if I stopped, I would have been in the middle of the Intersection so I had no choice but to commit. I wasn't speeding, I just am not from around here. I've never received a traffic ticket ever and cop said I would receive the ticket in the mail for $141. I wasn't reckless or trying to speed, just disoriented by the weather and no clear markings on the road where the white street markings would be to stop for the intersection. Can I get this ticket waived? Plead No-Lo, etc? $141 for a ticket is insane and I can't even go to court because I live in GA and was in PA just for work.

A: You'll at least want to try to get the ticket reduced to something that doesn't carry any "points" that might transfer to your GA driver's record (as well as jack up your car insurance premium). The fact that you're in GA and can't readily attend a traffic hearing up here means they pretty much have you over a barrel, alas. If you're planning on being back up in PA for work, however, you could try to schedule a traffic hearing during that time -- and I think the court would work with you on that. If so, call the court and request it.

Otherwise, you can contact the cop directly and see if he/she will voluntarily change the charge to something that doesn't carry any points. You probably won't pay much less for the ticket, but at least you won't have any negative repercussions on your GA driving record and/or increased insurance premiums.

I'm originally from Valdosta, GA. Best of luck to you.
