Bronx, NY asked in Employment Law for New York

Q: can an employer force a worker to work in a colder environment than normal without supplying proper insolated wear?

I work on a cool dock (30-38°f) and my manager wanted me and my coworker to work and the cold storage part of the warehouse (15-25°f) without providing additional isolation such as hat, gloves, coat, face mask and pants. I feel as if my health and safety is in jeopardy because of it being I just got out of the hospital due to an illness 3 days prior. Is this a reasonable request?

A: Under New York's new paid family leave law your employer will have to pay for 50% of your sick time for 8 weeks this year if you get ill.

So providing you with proper work attire is simply smart business. They may not have to do so but it could cost them more long term.
