Cleveland, OH asked in Landlord - Tenant for Ohio

Q: The plumbing in my bathroom Isn’t working and couldn’t use bathroom this week. Do I still have to pay that weeks rent?

Rental company won’t sent plumber because owner wants to use his own contractor, but he can’t come out for another three days. How do I get compensated for the inconvenience of not being able to use my only bathroom for a whole week? Shouldn’t the owner prorate my rent for that week?

A: The owner should pro-rate, but probably won't. If you don't pay your rent in full, owner could evict you. If owner files an eviction, that becomes a permanent court record and cannot be erased, even if it is dismissed, and that can cause a problem for you when renting from a landlord who checks. So try to work it out with landlord to avoid that.
