Garland, TX asked in Family Law and Child Support for Louisiana

Q: If I get married (first time, not remarried) does my wife's income impact my child support obligation? Does she pay too?

I was never married to my daughters mom when we had her. I am on her birth certificate and all. We've (my fiance and I) been trying to find these answers all over the place but have not been lucky at all. It'd just be nice to know if my wife would have to pay it with me at all, would the child support obligation increase because of our marriage? Also we have another child being born very soon as well. I don't know if that would impact it at all... Thank you for your help! I look forward to hearing back from you.

A: You and your fiance would be well advised to get a prenup to protect her in child support proceedings. A subsequent child will not affect your child support
