Fuquay Varina, NC asked in Traffic Tickets for North Carolina

Q: The person I hit called the cops after we exchanged information and now I’m getting a ticket!

At a stop sign, I thought the car in front of me turned right, (but she didn’t). As I was looking left to attempt to make my right hand turn as well, I released my brake and tapped the gas only to rear end her because she didn’t go. Obviously I’m at fault so I gave her all my information. There was very minor damage. I called my insurance to report the accident as I will also need to get my bumper fixed. They agreed that it was my fault. Minutes after filing the claim with my insurance company, I get a phone call from an office. She called the cops after she and I both left. Office said he could cite me with leaving the scene but wants me to come in Monday to pick up a failure to reduce speed to avoid accident ticket. Can this happen?

A: Yes, it can. Which is why you should have called to police yourself at the scene. If the FRSAA is all you get charged with it will likely get dismissed if you can show proof that your insurance company covered the other person's damage. In the future - trust no one.
