Cleveland, OH asked in Car Accidents and Personal Injury for Pennsylvania

Q: My parents live with me. They allow my nephen who has no liscensce to drive their car. Can i be held accountable.

I know that they run many risk in doing so and have tried to talk them out of doing this. I am just concerned that since they live with me and have nothing but their car in their name that if there was an accident and heaven forbid someone was injured, could legal action be taken against me since they live with me. Thank you.

A: Libaility is based on your empowering someone you know who is an unsafe driver (or unlicensed) to drive your car.

You aren't responsible for things your parents do.

That being said, do advise them (and they may call me if they don't believe you) that if the nephew gets in a wreck, they could be responsible and the insurance from the other driver will look to them for payment of any damages, and if they don't pay their license can be suspended!
