Garden Grove, CA asked in Animal / Dog Law for California

Q: I re-homed a puppy I rescued. It's been 3 months since the re-homing was finalized. New owners not responding, dog MIA

What can I do to make sure he's ok?

I rescue, foster and re-home dogs.

It's been 3 months and new owners missed follow ups with me and are not responding to texts/ calls/ messages.

The lack of feedback is making me fear the worst.

We had an agreement that I would check in the first 2 months and yearly after that.

Wellness check up is anything to prove dog is not under weight.

Example:

vet invoice, picture, dogs Instagram with a monthly post would more than satisfy this..

Things to note:

These people were interviewed twice

I have a copy of their rental agreement stating dogs are allowed

They agreed to a home inspection prior to adoption and passed with flying colors

Had no problem with adoption fee.

I pre-paid for the remainder of the puppy shots and found out from the vet he received them. This was 2 months ago.

No contract was signed because I'm an idiot..

Is there anything I can do to make sure this baby boy is okay/ still with new owners?

A: You gave the dog away. You have no right to come back and judge whether the new owners meet some undefined standard of care by which you are going to evaluate them. The dog is theirs now and you should move on.
