Blountstown, FL asked in Divorce for Florida

Q: If residents of Fl, and go to Mi., get a divorce, can the court system in Mi. Rule how our property is divided in Fl?

Married 35 yrs., husband had an affair, we were divorced in Mi. Jan 2017. We own home and property in Marianna, Fl. Was never divided fair and equally, never included our garage, man cave, 2 travel trailers, and everything inside all buildings were marital. I get to stay in the mobile home I bought, he is to have rights to his trailer. We own this land jointly, there are 2 parcels, my name on both. 1 well, 1 mailbox, 1 power pole. He has all the buildings locked, says I am not allowed on his side, girl friend here with him, he torments me every day, trying to get rid of me. How can Mi attorneys and judge rule on how we equally divide, when they don't know what we have here. He turned.my power off for 10 days, water was off past 4 days, thinks he owns everything. What can I do? He knows half of everything here is mine, but never stops acting like it is all his? I have called elder abuse, law enforcement, fraud lines, no one will help me.

A: The short answer is no; the Michigan court cannot divide your Florida property between you. You need to bring an action in Florida.
