Kenner, LA asked in Animal / Dog Law for Louisiana

Q: what can i do to prevent my mother from not allowing me to take my dog whenever i wish to move out ?

i live with my father and mother currently but wish to leave due to the fact that my family is very toxic and dysfunctional. my dog is always with me everyday except for the time i am at school, other than that she sleeps, eats, and does everything else with me . i don’t want to leave her because she is heavily attached to me and whenever i am not home she sits by the window waiting for me to come home so she can lay in bed alongside me. my mom however is the type of person to make a big deal and accuse me of stealing her . the dog was not bought for any amount of money she was given to my brother who is an alcoholic and was living with us at the time and she would always come to my room in the middle of the night so i ended up keeping her and taking care of her and he moved out and left her,it’s been over 6months since he left. so i believe she is mine now, she is not registered under anyone’s name but i plan on having her under my name as soon as i move out. i am very attached to her.

A: IF you are 18 or older, it will come down to who has receipts or cancelled checks for shots or license.
