A: Assuming you got the ticket in NC, if you don't pay or otherwise properly handle your ticket, your case will go into a Failure to Appear status. You will a have a twenty day grace period to take care of things, then a $200 penalty will apply on top of what ever else it takes to take care of the ticket. Also, North Carolina DMV will be notified. They will then give you 30 days to take care of things before they may heap additional fees on you. NC DMV will also likely put you in a national database of people who decided to ignore their tickets. Essentially, the end result of not taking care of your ticket will likely come at some point down the road, in say 10 to 20 years when you get tired of putting around on your scooter and decide to get a license - you won't be able to because you turned what could be less than a $100 ticket with the right traffic attorney into a giant expensive mess. I highly recommend that you do the adult responsible thing which is shop around for a NC traffic attorney to take care of the ticket for you but I am guessing that since you seem to be the kind of person whose life decisions include such gems as not wearing a seat belt in the first place, that you will likely end up in that database. Best of luck and in the future - make good choices. Seat belts save lives.
