Belton, SC asked in Family Law and Child Custody for Louisiana

Q: when does juvenile court jurisdiction end and does a request for disposition need to be formally filed to terminate?

civil cust proceedings and child support order in Rapides Parish. Then, an incident occurred in Grant Parish which required Jurisdictional Proceedings wherein custody was given to Father with Mother granted only supervised visitation 2 hours, 3 saturdays a month. The incident was isolated but the mother still has supervised visitation for the 9 YEARS since. Mother, Child and Father all reside in Rapides Parish now and have for several years. Mother filed a Rule to Modify custody . Was set for hearing but continued 3x by Father's attorney. Then, the court issued a judgement-ON HER OWN, WITHOUT ANY HEARING OR A REQUEST FOR JUDGEMENT-dismissing the case for lack of jurisdiction. she did not give reasons for her ruling. I read the statutes and jurisprudence and feel strongly that the Judge erred in this finding. I feel I need to file an appeal but do not know where to start. Need to know what I am missing ?& how she could rule w/o hearing?

A: 1) You need a juvenile court lawyer to file the appeal very quickly.

2) Juvenile court retains jurisdiction until the child turns 18.
