Atlanta, GA asked in Criminal Law for Georgia

Q: Can a 40 year old felony conviction be pardon? If so, would a pardon restore one's right to gun ownership?

I am currently 57 years old. When I was 17, I was convicted for a felony marijuana drug charge in Alabama. I was trying to pay my way through college by supplementing my income by selling marijuana joints to my friends; one who exposed me to police. I pled guilty and was sentenced to probation. After serving out my time on probation (I can't remember if it was 2 or 3 years), I joined the Army and moved away. I disclosed everything, and the Army knew about the conviction. So did the my other Government employers whom I have held jobs with over the past 40 years. Now as a women entering her senior years, a veteran and soon the be Government retiree, I find that I can't even own a hand gun to protect myself. Can my gun ownership rights be restored?
