Covington, LA asked in Animal / Dog Law for Louisiana

Q: Lawn care comes in my yard and harms my dog what’s his liability for vet bills? Has been told not to enter if dog’s out.

Lawn care service that has been cutting my grass has been told not to enter the yard if my dog is in the yard. One of his workers came in the yard, my dog was moving towards him, barking and he held up a weed eater toward her face and burned her badly. He swears that it wasn’t on and that she hurt herself putting her nose under the fence to get to the workers. I saw him with my own eyes holding the weed eater up to her to keep her away. He claims he knocked and called and didn’t get a reply so he moved forward with cutting. No one else was hurt other than my dog!

A: 1) File a claim with Justice of the Peace for Vet bills,

2) Hire new lawn care company,

3) Pick specified days for lawn care and leave your pets inside on those days.
