I’ve worked for Loreal USA for 12 years based in SF. I have always worked M-F except for a handlful of Saturday’s that I work to execute work events. Now my employer is trying to make it mandatory for me to work almost every Saturday through yeh year. New leadership is responsible for initiating this change. This provides a finically hardship to my family as I will

Now have to pay for childcare on a Saturday as well as impress on my work life balance, allowing for only one day of “family time” a week. Do I have any legal rights that protect what has always been my base schedule?

A: No, sorry. Unless you have an express contract provision guaranteeing you set hours, your employer has the right the change the terms and conditions of your employment, including the days and hours you must work, at any time and for any reason or even no reason at all. There is no mechanism in the law that creates a legal right to a particular schedule based on the fact you have had that schedule for a long time. Your options are limited. You can appeal to the company to give you the same schedule and if they refuse, you either have to work the new schedule, refuse and likely be fired, or quit and find a new employer.

Good luck to you.
