Philadelphia, PA asked in Civil Litigation, Contracts and Real Estate Law for Pennsylvania

Q: if I have a judgement against me can I arrange a payment plan, do i file with the court or the plaintiffs attorney?

$10,000 judgement against me for leaving a lease early. It was due to me being hit by a car, out of work, couldn't afford my rent. Then I was stuck in a snowstorm couldn't make it to court they entered a judgement against me even though I requested a continuance.

A: You can contact the landlord's attorney to discuss a payment plan -- *or* you may be able to appeal the judgment from the Municipal Court to the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and try to lower the judgment. There are time limits for appealing a Municipal Court judgment, however, so you should look into this option immediately if it interests you!

Best of luck to you.
