Sunset, LA asked in Child Custody for Louisiana

Q: Can I open a custody case in a different parish?

My sons paternal grandmother has custody of my son and has had custody of him for the past 2 years. The case is being seen in the parish I reside in, but my son resides with his grandmother in a different parish, and he has lived there for 2 years. My sons grandmother knows alot of people in the parish courthouse that I reside in, where the case is currently proceeding at, who is helping her keep custody of him. I want custody back, so I reopened the case, now I feel like I'm not receiving a fair trial in this parish due to her connections here. Can I open a new case in the parish where they reside at, where I feel like I may get a fair trial?

A: It depends on whether this case is in juvenile or family court. Consult with a custody lawyer.
