Closter, NJ asked in Personal Injury for New Jersey

Q: Should I retain a personal counsel addition to insurance assigned lawyer?

2 Years ago, I rear ended a car. My car had no damage and the other car just replaced a bumper. I have been sued this February for personal injury. I have sent lawsuit paper to my insurance company and they assigned me a lawyer. My deposition have been adjourned twice and rescheduled on September. I had a 100,000/300,000 liability coverage. I own a house and bank accounts. I am nervous about future outcome. Should I retain a personal counsel addition to insurance assigned lawyer? I would appreciate your help. Thank You.

A: You could arrange a consultation with an attorney who is knowledgeable about the management of assets; that's a personal decision. The insurance carrier's defense attorney assigned to you could help you make that decision - based on the direction the case is taking, if there are indications as to how it will ultimately conclude, the protections given to you by the carrier's standard form release, and other factors. Good luck
