Ripon, CA asked in Civil Rights and Constitutional Law for California

Q: Can a substance abuse treatment facility deny me freedom of religion?

I attempted to enroll into a substance abuse treatment facility and was denied denied the right to have Cedar and Sage with me at facility to pray with. I am a Latino and Native American Lipan Apache Indian I send my prayers to the Creator and the smoke from the sage carries them. the director said I could not have this there and when I inquired a second time I was told to "get out ". the same facility has a sister facility for women they were allowed to have Sage there to pray with the sage art the women's facility I was at the men's and they denied me I believe this is egregious infringement upon my constitutional right to practice freedom of religion. what do I do?

A: Look for a different treatment facility which will accommodate you religious beliefs.
