Ellijay, GA asked in Criminal Law for Georgia

Q: Can a felony charge be reduced to a misdemeanor charge?

I was arrested on the 16th of this month for 3 counts of identity theft fraud. A bond was set for me before I was even booked into the jail and I was out the next day. The people who filed the police report (family) have hired an attorney on my behalf, because of what they heard my sentence could be. They didn't think I could end up in prison. They had a meeting with the attorney today and he told them that he could try to get the charges reduced to misdemeanors so that I don't have to spend time locked up. I'm supposed to meet with him tomorrow, as well. But is this kind of charge eligible to be reduced? I will add that this is my first offense and I only used information from driver's license to try and open an insurance policy on a vehicle. I never stole credit card information or anything.
