Waycross, GA asked in Adoption, Child Support and Family Law for Georgia

Q: My husband has been paying child support for his daughter regularly for over 9 years.

We have never had any contact with the child at the request of her mother. She also requested 5 years ago that my husband allow her husband to adopt because he is the only father she knows. He agreed it was in her best interest and we never heard anything else about it. Recently within the last month we have started receiving a check from the child support office in their state for the amount we pay weekly? Why are we receiving this if the office in our state shows the case still open?

A: I agree with my colleague, you are receiving a refund on what you paid after the time that the child was adopted. -Homer P. Jordan IV, Esq. 404-620-1558 HomerJordan.com
