Westerville, OH asked in Real Estate Law for Ohio

Q: Are there any requirements in Wayne County, Ohio, regarding inspections required prior to a home sale/purchase? Thx

We are pursuing a purchase of a home that is FSBO and are being told by the seller that there are inspections that are legally required. We have not heard that in the past so we want to make sure we do what needs to be done. As far as we know what inspections are being done depends on the agreement by the parties.

A: When making an expensive investment purchase such as a home, it is prudent to retain an attorney to assist you, especially if it is FSBO. Thorough inspections also are essential to check the condition of the home, a survey to check boundaries, a title examination to check for liens and other title problems, etc. Use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local attorney who can review all those with you and advise any local regulations that the city or county might have - if you really "want to make sure we do what needs to be done."
