A: Too little information and two totally unrelated issues (child’s age and property). You need to consult with a lawyer before doing anything and learn first what your rights are as well as the definition of “marital property” which is not determined based on whose name is on the title or the account. Child support is payable through completion of high school regardless of the date a child turns 18, but not past the age of 19. Alimony, health insurance, pension/retirement accounts, etc., are all in play here. Talk to a lawyer and get educated first in what rights you have and the options, then decide how best to proceed to both protect yourself and your child’s best interests.
