A: If your child joins the military and that is included as an intervening event that would terminate support (child is no longer dependent upon parents for support due to military involvement), then you would want to file a notice that that event has occurred to terminate your support. Your best bet is to at least consult with an attorney about the specifics of your situation so you are sure you are following your specific order and have taken any necessary steps to notify the Court/child support enforcement if it should terminate. Best wishes!

A: A child joining the military can often be a reason to terminate child support before the age of 19 years old in Nebraska. Depending on the facts of the case and the wording of the order, generally a motion to terminate child support is filed asking the Court to terminate child support due to the child joining the military.
