Marietta, GA asked in Landlord - Tenant for Georgia

Q: Not sure how to handle this eviction situation. Help!

I moved in with my roommate and signed a lease April 2014.

I moved out of the apartment January 2015. I filled out the paperwork and got the money order. But my roommate never signed the paperwork (didn't know about this).

around March 2015, I got an eviction notice since my roommate neglected to pay rent

A month later, showed up to court. My roommate didn't. I explained the situation. She said because my roommate didn't show up, I would have to take him to small claims court to fight it. But we could settle and I could pay off an amount. I said okay to the settlement and walked out of court. Didn't talk to the judge or a prosecutor. I didn’t get any follow up from the lawyer.

Trying to apply for an apartment. Eviction shows up for them. Said they can approve me if I handle it. Doesn’t show up on my credit reports or rental history that I ran. Old apartment said that collection agency went out of business so they can’t do anything.

What Do I do?

A: A little bit more information is needed to provide you with a definitive answer. Did you actually pay the settlement amount you agreed to in court? It is best to contact an attorney as soon as possible to ensure your interests are protected. We are here to assist you whenever you are ready. I wish you well.
