San Francisco, CA asked in Car Accidents for California

Q: I lent my car out to a friend and she crashed it and caused $2500 in damages. She has only paid 500, what can I do?

I had minimum coverage on the vehicle so insurance was no help. She did not have insurance. I paid for the repairs already, what can I do about trying to get the rest of the money?

A: YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD INSURANCE TO PAY FOR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

YOU CAN SUE HER IN SMALL CLAIMS IF THE ACCIDENT WAS HER FAULT

A: file a claim in small claims. If she has insurance you can try to make a claim against them but generally they only cover damage to a third party vehicle not damage to a loaner. Give it a shot, if they don't go for it try to file a complaint with your state's insurance commissioner.
