Asked in Family Law and Civil Rights for Georgia

Q: I'm 23 years old, my mother has guardianship over me as an adult, she made me move out and doesn't take care of me.

My guardian is my mother, she's the only person listed on my guardianship papers, she made me move out of her house and into my fathers house, I believe she isn't doing her duties as my guardian anymore because she doesn't take care of me and hardly checks on me, My father is never at home because he works out of state plus my father shouldn't have any control over me because he's not listed anywhere on my papers, as a guardian. Do I have to listen to him and can I have my guardianship terminated because my mother is refusing to let me live with her and be my guardian.

A: You may want to consult with an attorney who can review the facts of your case in detail and present you with the options. Also, if you have a case worker at all you may want to discuss this with that person and see what they suggest. Without knowing the facts of your case in detail it’s difficult to provide you with guidance. -Homer P. Jordan IV, Esq. 404-620-1558
