A: There's not enough information here to answer your question adequately. This is because the federal and State court systems here in Illinois operate very differently. The federal courts in Illinois are divided into three separate federal districts, Northern, Central, and Southern. Each has it's own Clerk's Office with records for indictments filed.

The State system is divided up into its separate counties. Each County has its own criminal justice system and each has a separate Clerk's Office where records regarding indictments are kept. Many county clerk offices maintain some of their records online where one can do a name search to see if there's an indictment in that County. Cook County, which consists of Chicago and many outlying suburbs, does not have an internet based search system yet where one has to go physically to the Clerk's Office to conduct a search at a computer terminal.

If you're a defendant or a family member/friend of the defendant, perhaps you should contact a lawyer to help. If you're a crime victim, perhaps you should contact the State's Attorney's Office for the County where the crime occurred for assistance.

Hope this helps.
