Saint Louis, MO asked in Employment Law for Missouri

Q: Unpaid wages

I have been working with a property manager/owner that focuses on low income housing for several years as general maintenance. I am responsible for work orders for current residents, inspections from various housing agencies and City of St louis building division, leasing, and training/running new employees. I am considered "self employed" by employer, however am used like a full time employee. I submit hours weekly by email and was usually paid weekly in cash and business checks. The past three months or so payment has been random and spotty (little here, little there). I am currently past due $2,765.51 and fear non payment. what are my options?

A: Whether you are an independent contractor or an employee, it sounds like you are owed money. Your options are to try to get paid on your own, file suit on your own, or hire an attorney to try to get you paid or to file suit.

A: Missouri has a good unpaid-wage statute but requires strict compliance.
