Covington, LA asked in Animal / Dog Law for Louisiana

Q: We were donated a dog by a breeder no paper work now she wants the dog back can she do that?

Given the dog and 2 weeks later she said she wants the dog back. She has told us we had till Friday at 5pm or else. Now she claims she’s involving police is going to get my husband fired from his job. Just trying to figure out what leg she has to stand on we never signed paper work she gave us a paper to register him as a bully but that’s all.

A: You already called my office. You have a signed registration paper from her. I advised you to get the dog shots, chipped, wormed and a license from your veterinarian. Then you will have more than enough documentation to show the police if she calls. I doubt police will get involved. If she is dumb enough to file in small claims court, again you should have enough documentation to win.
