Houston, TX asked in Uncategorized for Texas

Q: Is it illegal for a club or bar or dancehall to have cameras that only play live feed?

For example if there is a fight at one of these places and one of the people involved in the fight wants footage, but the cameras only show live feed and there’s no recorded evidence of there having been a fight. Can the bar owner be sued by a victim or victims family for not having recordings ?

(This is for personal knowledge and I have not been involved in any case like such. Just for personal knowledge)

A: This is something a Texas attorney would know best, but your question remains open for four weeks. As a general matter across the nation, this is still an emerging area where the law is concerned. Some jurisdictions have recently started to implement regulations requiring surveillance cameras in businesses where alcohol is sold or served. And such regulations could possibly address elements such as data storage, resolution, etc. You could check with local lawmakers as well as attorneys for developments on this issue. Good luck
