Cincinnati, OH asked in Family Law for Ohio

Q: i am 16 years old almost 17 an i am wanting to be emancipated .. do you think i could?

i moved here nearly two years ago with my grandparents .. my mom an dad dont have custody of me since i moved here a lot has occurred . there was a situation that lead her husband to have to move out.. there is a lot of resentment for one another because of it i think even though she made him leave ( which i appreciate) i feel ill never be able to actually be me an enjoy life till im 18 or on my own cause of everything that happens an we both have VERY different views an wants for each other which makes things harder. we have did therapy an stuff but its just not gonna work...i have a job.. i go to school i know how to do the typical things like laundry an stuff... i actually pay for an do my own laundry... already an ill have a place to stay in Kentucky till i could get a new job an my own place i have tried doing the mature thing an asked her on several occasions if she would just let me go but she keeps refusing....im tired of trying to wait it out..what do i do?

A: You must stay with those who have custody, as required by the court's custody order. Ohio does not allow emancipation in your situation. See this link:

Talk to a teacher, school counselor, or other trusted adult about your situation.
