Grabill, IN asked in Traffic Tickets for Indiana

Q: Can I get my fine (Operating with Expired Plates) reduced/eliminated?

The plates expired several months ago. I did not realize this, as my mother kindly paid for my registration while I was at university (the renewal info is mailed to her address, not mine, so I did not realize the plates were not renewed this year). I’m not sure if I can fight this ticket (I know ignorance is no excuse), but it was an honest mistake (and one which I corrected immediately ... the plates are renewed) and, I don’t know if this helps, but I do have a clean driving record. Would either of these factors help lower the ticket cost? If yes, what steps should I take?

Thank you very much to anyone who answers this question. Much appreciated!

A: Before paying the ticket, consider calling the prosecutors office to see if they would be willing to work with you. Additionally, most of the ticket costs is the court costs which are $135.50. The prosecutor may be willing to dismiss for compliance.
