Q: I have an idea for a product that would help train editors, university students, academics,

I have an idea for a product that would help train editors, university students, academics, and scientists to use specific citation systems, such as the ACS Style Guide.

However, before I build this product I need to check if it would infringe copyright. Specifically, I need to know if I can reference the rules and/or examples contained in these citation systems, in my product. I have seen other products do reference these citation systems (e.g.,, but I am not sure if this is legal or not.

A: If it is just referencing, you may be ok

IF you are taking content created by somebody else and putting it in your product or as the result of your product, you would need authorization from those owners.

It can be complicated.
