Weaver, AL asked in Child Support for Alabama

Q: my daughter is divorced and her ex husband has been ordered to pay child support. He is currently getting garnished but

is still in arrears. Now his taxes and stimulus check was added to arrears. How does that effect my daughter? If the taxes etc. are going toward arrears, she is still entitled to whole arrearage, right? But ultimately where does that money Refunds go to? lets say he owes $5000.00 and receives a refund of $500.00, that means his arrears is only $ 4500.00 anymore? but my daughter will still receive the $ 5000.00, correct? Where then is the $ 500.00 going? Just does not make any sense. She has been getting the run around between DHR, Courthouse and IRS. We just need to understand that process.

She lives in Alabama

A: Hello. Child support and how payments opposite is, unfortunately, more complicated than how you describe and more explanation is needed than able to write here. Best of luck.
