Q: I am a Tennant who recently moved into a condo. The landlord/owner had me put my name on the water bill.

I received the first bill and noticed it was extremely high for 19 days of service, only using 700 gallons. I found out that the condo is on a Master meter. So I have to meet the minimum of 41.20 a month plus whatever my water and sewer usage is that month. In this case it is the Master meter which was 41.20 and I used 700 gallons which came to 3.23 including sewer. 98 centers per gallon/ 2.87 per gallon sewer. Plus a service fee of 3.50. so my bill was 47.93. insane for using 700 gallons. I'm assuming the min. monthly master meter amount is for the community's irrigation, pool, general areas water usage? I know it's not for anything in my apartment. My question is weather it is legal to make me, the Tennant pay for the landlords community master meter. I thought you are only be liable for what you the tennant use inside the apartment. I read the lease and is says nothing about this master meter. Even if I use 0 gallons of water I get billed the 41.20. Any help or info is appreciated
