A: From the information provided, im not sure if you are being scammed by a con-artist or if she legitimately was not sure what she wanted to do and in the end, decided to go forward with the birth. But, before I would give her another penny, I would ask for the birth certificate, medical records for the birth and let her know that if you are the biological father, you will honor your obligations to the child. Whether you are ready to be a father or not, is irrelevant to this question. Right now, you are trying to figure out whether you are being scammed for money or whether she legitimately gave birth, you have the right to require that you, she and the baby submit to a paternity test. If the results of that test ( through a state lab only with proper procedures in place), are that you are the biological father, then you sit down with a family law attorney to go over the child support guidelines and arrangements be put in place for the payment of child support and then you can decide if you want a relationship with the child - but regardless of whether you want to see the child, if you are the biological father, you have legal obligations for his support.
