A: Most if not all funeral homes allow the immediate family to write the obituary. And I have never heard of any funeral home that in any way edits any obituary written by the immediate family. However, why not try?

Moreover, once the obituary is written and published in some local newspaper the funeral home has no power to change anything in it. However, I suppose that if you object to the newspaper that published the obituary they might--or might not--write a correction note in the obituary section and might also publish the fact that you are very angry.
