North Miami Beach, FL asked in Child Support for Florida

Q: I have a notice of hearing in court about a child support case, do i need a lawyer for this?

I am the father and i've never been late or stop paying the child support, just last year because a disagreement about taxes with my ex wife i paid for 4 month half of the child support. Also I want to review the agreement on my child support since there is a clause that i have to pay the full amount (even when my oldest kid is 20 y.o.) until the youngest of my kids turn 18.

A: One should always fully document child support payments and, as in your case, agreements to do something other than pay your monthly child support obligation. You didn't say if your paying only half of the child support for four months was pursuant to an agreement with your ex-wife; hopefully it was. Bring such documentation with you if you have it.

Yes, it would be a good idea to have an attorney with you. And if you want to also seek modification of your child support, that will probably require a written motion to be filed with the court, and a separate hearing.
