Q: Code compliance was contacted about electric split to another building My rent was raised $200 the same day. Retalitory.

This is the text my landlord sent 'Giselle said thanks to whoever call code enforcement on me that's the reason rent is going up .the city said I can't rent I guess it was a waist of $.i don't need a permit to do renovation inside my house.but I understand now and I went and got a permit to transfer power from the shed to the apartment which the company now is charging me$2200.and I didn't get a stimulus check also.i have 2 babies I have to take care people see me as a landlord think I have $I have a regular job.the property is just an investment so when I sale it I will make a profit the people in the front rent is going up also it's not just you.thats to make up for the renovation I did for nothing.thanks to whoever call.but anyway that's the reason...'

A: Wow. Sounds like you should start moving and get away from that awful landlord, because you are getting the shaft.

However, unless you have a written lease agreement controlling the amount of monthly rent the landlord can do whatever they want to do--Including evicting you for not paying the rent. Pack up and leave.
