A: If you are married and the relationship is over, you file for a divorce. If you are not married you can file for a "paternity" case asking the judge to order that he is the father, then ask for custody, visitation to him and an order for child support from him to help support the baby. You can start this before the baby is born. Try the Self-Help Center which is free, to help you with the paperwork. You can also contact Child Support Services and they can also help you get child support. They are also free. He can be ordered to pay even if he is an immigrant. Get this started now before he decides to leave the country.
