Riverside, CA asked in Child Custody for California

Q: Ok first off my children were taken from me by cps and are currently with family members because I was accused of

Abusing my son in order for me to be reunited with my children I have to complete parenting and anger management classes. What can happen if I enroll myself into a rehab center because I feel like I have a gambling addiction will this be a bad decision and hurt my chances of getting my children back?

A: It sounds like you are in Juvenile Dependency Court. If you are, the judge as assigned an attorney for you. The first person you should ask these questions to is your own attorney because he/she knows your case the best. The second thing you should do is get a copy of the orders by the judge. You want to follow exactly what the judge has ordered because if you successfully complete what the judge has ordered, the judge will be happy with your progress and you will be closer to re-unification with your children. It sounds like you are taking this seriously and want to know that if you take extra classes, if that will help. That sounds like you are trying hard. But before you start taking extra classes, you want to be sure first that you have completed all the classes the judge has already ordered. Before you enroll in a rehab center, talk to your own court-appointed attorney to see if that is a good idea. It might be a good idea, but check first. Also don't give up!
