West Covina, CA asked in Civil Rights for California

Q: Police raided my house and refuse to show me a warrant or give me a copy of it, can I sue?

The police raided my house but refused to give me a warrant and still refuse to give me a copy of a warrant, they broke my furniture and when showed only a picture of the warrant they had crossed out an address and put mine on top of it, can I sue for damages and not showing me a warrant upon arrival and not having the warrant filled out correctly? This has taken a big mental and emotional tole on me and my family we feel violated and unsafe in our own home.

A: Contact a good civil rights lawyer right away. There are many very good ones in Los Angeles County, and several in and around your immediate area. Law enforcement officers are under so much scrutiny now. You will want to act while the evidence is fresh and witnesses still have a good memory of the events fresh in their minds. A good lawyer will get a copy of the warrant, which is so important to your case right now, because you will not be able to get a copy on your own.
