A: Go to Court on your court date and take all documents with you that show what you have done since you got an extension to get the registration fixed. It also helps if you have paid the registration and can provide proof of payment. If you are having mechanical problems and you are being diligent about getting it fixed, the Court will usually give you additional time to complete repair and get registered. The Court is looking for certain things: 1. you paid the registration- CA got its money; 2. you have been trying to get this smog issue taken care of, not just driving around for 2 months and not doing anything until you have another court date; 3. you present yourself as someone who is trying to be socially responsible to get the car registered.
