Delray Beach, FL asked in Consumer Law for Florida

Q: Is it legal in Florida for dental practices to charge a COVID-19 fee to their patients to cover the costs of PPEs?

Particularly if that practice is a corporation - Sage Dental. Didn't they receive any relief money from the government to defray these costs?

A: There is always some new scam and fee, I would venture to say that a dentist charges plenty in general for their services already, this would be like an attorney, accountant, restaurant, bar, etc., any business adding a Covid-fee because the cost of doing business has increased with Covid now, we can all quickly agree on two things, sure there are extra costs and precautions you have to pay for but should it be an added fee, absolutely not because it is a garbage add on fee (look at any dealership car sales agreement, you find plenty of those garbage profit fees always in there), so, I think it is time to find a new dentist not charging this scam/garbage fee, that is my opinion. If you are really irked, send a letter and complaint to your state consumer protection/ Attorney General Office and see what they have to say about it.
