Chicago, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Got pulled over for going 80 on a 45. Only got a ticket and kept my license and was given a court date.

I have a clean record and my hearing is a few weeks from now. Will I have to serve jail time? And have a high fine? Located in Illinois. Pulled over on grand avenue.

A: Unlikely to go to jail but this is a class A misdemeanor, one step below a felony and probably worth retaining a lawyer.

A: Speeding 35+ is a class a misdemeanor. It may be possible to avoid a criminal conviction and reduce the penalties. Jail time can likely be avoided. Depending on the circumstances, other penalties such as traffic school and/or community service may be imposed. An attorney can certainly ensure you receive the best possible result.

A: This is not a normal speeding ticket. This is a Class A Misdemeanor which is punishable by up to 364 days in jail and up to $2,500.00 in fines not including mandatory assessments. You need to hire an attorney to assist you with this matter. Most attorney will try and have this ticket amended to a Petty Offense, but they need time to work on your case, so hire an attorney now.
