Memphis, TN asked in Traffic Tickets for Tennessee

Q: Received a ticket for right rear tail light being out . Should I fight ticket or pay it?

I don't reside in Tennessee. I was approaching a yellow stop light in the North Memphis area, therefore I stopped. There was a cop on the opposite side of the street. The cop did a sharp u-turn and pulled behind me. She asked for my license and nothing else like registration or Insurance. I asked her why am I being pulled over and she said my right tail light was out. I didn't know it was out. When the officer came back, she gave me a ticket and told me to pay it. I asked why did I get a ticket and she stated in Tennessee you can receive a ticket for a broken or none working tail light. This is my first time ever being stopped for this issue that I didn't know I had. I truly want to fight the ticket because I didn't know the light was out.

A: Your ignorance of the bad light will not work. You might get the light fixed and take the receipt to Court with you. The worst that can happen is you are found guilty, but it might get dismissed.
