Anaheim, CA asked in Civil Litigation for California

Q: How do I get started and filing a civil case for breaching a contract? Is there free help available in LA County?

I’m helping my friend who got ripped off for $8000, but I don’t know how to start. I’m unfamiliar with the terms and I don’t want to mess it up. What options do we have? Money is limited

A: The maximum for Small Claims is now $10,000.00, your court costs are on top of whatever you claim. Suggest you go online to LA Superior Court website and see if they either have online filing or forms to fill out and submit. The case description would be "Breach of Contract regarding.........(short description is better.)" Don't make the mistake of describing the entire case on the forms, less is more.
