Q: I’m 17 can i get a lawyer without parents permission on a traffic citation case?

I was charged with person ineligible for liscensing and a maximum speed limit charge. It happened at 11 but the incident says it occurred at 2am. If i plead guilty and don’t beat it will i lose my juniors lisence and what are the chances i beat both charges?

A: The answer is that technically, you probably cannot retain a lawyer on your own for a couple reasons. I assume you are trying to keep this whole situation from your parents, but in order to enter into any contract in Pennsylvania, you must be 18 years of old. That includes any sort of fee agreement you might enter into with an attorney. Additionally, technically a parent or guardian has to accompany you to court because of your juvenile status. Not all courts enforce that however. My advice would be to try to get in touch with an attorney in your area to get a free confidential consultation. An attorney in your area that has experience with the specific court and police department could give you the best tailored advice.

Good luck.
